Hide folders with Folder Guard

Folder Guard® lets you hide folders and files from other users of your computer. When you hide a folder with Folder Guard, it becomes invisible to other programs and applications, including Office, MS-DOS prompt, etc. When you need to work with the files from the hidden folder, you would use the Toggle Protection command of Folder Guard (that you can quickly access via the hot key) and, as if by magic, the hidden folder would instantly become visible!

It's very easy to hide folder with Folder Guard: simply select the folder you want to hide in the main window of Folder Guard, right-click on the folder, and select the Visibility - Hidden command from the shortcut menu, or press the Hidden button on the toolbar:

When you enable the protection, the folder becomes hidden. It will not be listed in the Windows Explorer windows, in the Find Files results, in the standard Open/Save As dialogs, or anywhere else.

Note that some programs may store the information about the files from the hidden folders separately from the folders themselves, and that can make such information visible even though the folder itself is hidden. For example, such a problem occurs with the popular image cataloguing application ThumbsPlus. As a matter of fact, ThumbsPlus keeps the thumbnails of the images separately from the images itself. This makes the thumbnails visible even after you have restricted visibility or access to the original images. To solve this problem, you need not only hide the folder where your images are (by assigning the hidden attribute to the folder with FolderGuard), but you also need to remove the thumbnails of the images stored by ThumbsPlus. You can do it by running ThumbsPlus, selecting the folder in question, and choosing the Thumbnail - Remove - In Folder command from ThumbsPlus menu (the exact name of the command depends on the version of ThumbsPlus that you have). After that, the images in the protected folder will not be visible in ThumbsPlus, until you disable protection of that folder.
